Appendix C: Experiment 1 System Knowledge Test
Participants took this test on the computer. The computer randomized the order of the questions.
For questions that measure content SK, the response choices were (a) extinct, (b) endangered, and (c) populous. Correct responses depended upon which website they were viewing, since there were two versions of the website to counterbalance the animals’ classifications. The filler questions were not scored and were only asked so that participants would not simply focus on learning only the population category of each animal when they studied the outline and website. The response choices for the filler questions were (a) bird, (b) herding animal, and (c) meat eater.
